First
of all I have to say that the Polish death metal band DEVILYN
hasn’t released a new studio album. The material on The
Past Against The Future is by no means new but consists
of two demos, a cover version and a video. The Rule, which was
recorded under the old band name Cerebral
Concussion and
re-mastered comes along with a quite poor sound, which is excusable
after 10 years. Next songs are not less poorly conceived, but
nevertheless A Shadow Of Archeron and The Rule
have found its way on DEVILYN’s debut Anger.
The Promo 2000 contains three songs
and was recorded after the split with Listenable Records. The
song Deceived Conscience succeeded to get on the subsequently
album Artefact that was released by
Blackend Records in the year 2001.
The cover version is a cool interpretation of Carcass’ Heartwork
that was recorded during the Artefact
sessions.
Last but not least there is a nice video to Reborn In Pain
from the album of the same name, which was released in 1998.
Altogether The Past Against The Future
is quite amusing but in the end it will adress only the band’s
true fans. Consequently DEVILYN’s loyal
worshippers can use this album to shorten the waiting time for
the Polish’s next “real” album. All the rest
should prefer the band’s studio albums.
