DEMAGOGUE
are young, sick and serve us their 4 track debut called Nihil
Obstat. A real bastard that wants you to listen
to more than just 4 tracks.
This London based quartet was founded in 2002 by Frank Allein,
who wanted to take his Thrash solo project to a step further.
It all turned out to DEMAGOGUE, its music does
not have much to do with Thrash metal anymore. Only opener Litany
Of Scorn shows these roots, incl. rattling cymbals. The other
three tracks range more into Death metal fields, whereas Broken
Father not only has progressive influences which are known
from Opeth, but also has some Black metal-like singing. Though
DEMAGOGUE is more focusing on Death metal growls,
with some clean sung snippets, giving a crazy and twisted touch
to the music. Contemplation To Despair follows same traces,
just has a plus of freaky acoustic tunes.
Nihil Obstat sounds unbelievably intensive
and dense, oppressive, piling up an unholy atmosphere. Songs are
varied in tempo, riffing and breaks, still compact and all the
time comprehensible. There is nothing to nag about the production
as well. Well done job! Indeed! Killing stuff! Interested parties
can order this brutal piece via the band’s website.
