What a punch! Emos, run for your life, metalcores, burn your guitars. Gothenburg is back and this time the old shit. For a long time I haven’t been that happy about a newcomer band until the day of the first detonation of this demo from this outfit known as DEFACED. And it is only a demo… But the sound is good, nothing to nag about. The producer, mixer, drummer and whatever, Lucas has done something damn right, I guess. OK, it is not In Flames, but I think that’s a point the guys don’t wanna go. My old ears recognize much more of bands like At The Gates, Unanimated, Gates Of Ishtar and Dimension Zero. Combined with a piece of Death Metal, a shot of black stuff and every now and then a bit Finland. Pretty good what these 5 guys from Celle (Germany) came out with. Rest In Pieces kicks ass right from the beginning of these 22 minutes of pleasure. Some melodies and then right to the face. Right from the start they show that they know what they are doing. Good technical stuff, fast blasts, nasty guitars and cool melodies. Melo-deadhead, what more you need? The voice of fronter Phil sounds not really like Tompa, but who cares it suits the music. And it does perfectly. The only thing I would have wished is a bit more catchiness. But, before I drown in laudation, god damn, its 22 minutes, get the shit yourselves. I am done here.
Uh, no… the only real criticism: The cover is boring.
