DEAD REMAINS
offer brutal, uncomplicated, simple and tough-minded Death Metal
on Conscious Cremation.
I cannot find
any experiments; the songs blow me directly to the wall, with
a slight touch of Grindcore. In between, some throttled measures
take part, but this slower stylistic device only holds little
space on this release.
In case of the intense piece Awoken In Flames, I appreciate
these ingredients.
This album comes across in powerful and intense style, but does
not hold outstanding moments. I know that the band wants to play
old school style, but this way of operating is too unspectacular
to leave a trace in my mind. The guys have chosen the cover version
of Six Feet Under’s classic Revenge Of The Zombie
as conclusion – and I think that’s exactly what the
target group wants to hear.
In the end,
Conscious Cremation stays faceless and I miss a
self-contained touch; just impact without outstanding ideas is
not enough for a strong release…
