Still I’m wondering why I haven’t heard anything about this excellent Austrian underground band before, although they already have three releases… The quality of the offered material is highly above today’s underground standard. Playing absolutely tight, these six guys unleash all their anger on this CD and blast their Black/Death/Thrash mixture through your boxes with sheer brutality.
While the high-speed passages sometimes remind me on bands like Enthroned or Marduk, already the first mid-tempo parts show clearly, that this band is much more innovative and variable. The slower parts are not just fillers between the blastbeats, but a good stylistic device to give the songs more different facets and more different identities. This is perfectly shown in the title track, which proves, that the band managed the balancing art between raging blastbeats and threatening grooves. Additional spots of colour the music receives through discreetly used synthesizers, creating a dark atmosphere in the right parts.
The main character of the songs is quite atmospheric, which is also caused by the thick production. Except of mixing the screeching and growling vocals too low, DARK DECEPTION don’t make many mistakes. Although song titles like Satanic Revenge or Spiritual War suggest typical cliché lyrics, they definitely not consist of stupid Black Metal-slogans.
I’m absolutely sure; that this album will find its friends and the fanbase of DARK DECEPTION will grow with a bit promotion!
