If sheer musical velocity of terror makes your insides mosh, then ATROCITY’s latest box set Okkult lll does just that. Serving you massive doses of heart adrenaline pumped brutal metal that kicks the lesser beings (bands) out of place, ATROCITY claims their supreme dominance over all. From beginning to end Okkult lll is perfection at its best from the blasting out of this world insane guitar riffs, aggressive brutal vocals, to the rhythm section between bass and drums that create that final blunt force. Few might think early death metal (ex. Obituary, Sepultra) when listening to the first couple of tracks but as time goes by each song generates its own life as the ears are being converted to the listening ways of ATROCITY.
Now come to think about it, ATROCITY in their own right belong with those named acts that spawned the world of extreme brutal metal. Formed back in the 80's this German five-piece band forged the way unto the scene creating an impressive resume with their sound and overall presence. Releasing more than 13 full length albums and others including EPs, collaborations, split and compilations this group has done it all. ATROCITY noticed for being a killer live act in concert have an extensive history with tours and sharing the stage with named acts at metal festivals.
ATROCITY, not afraid to venture into the darker lyrical aspects, generates thought provoking music to which when combining this special blend, you get something out of this metal wicked world. Each song from beginning to end is perfection at its best starting with Desecration Of God to the final track of Teufelsmarsch. Since this album is a 2-part CD, first CD consists of 10 tracks, while disc 2 consists of 10 instrumental tracks (same music as first CD, but just minus the vocals). With this being the last of the Okkult lllalbum trilogy, fans I am sure are going to be asking will there be another musical story that might continue on? Who knows but the band and it doesn't hurt for wishful thinking... right?
Now with that being said Okkult lll digital-box set contains 2-CD media book, flag, patch, 2 postcards and an autograph signed card. If you ask me, this is a must have to any metal extremist music collection.
The album also has a few surprises with musical guests of Elina Siirala (Leave's Eyes) and Zoe Federoff (Catalyst Crime, Cradle Of Filth) who both share vocals on Malicious Sukkubus. Not only that but Jonah Weingarten (Catalyst Crime, Pyramaze) offers his unique orchestration on that track as well. Robse Dahn (Equilibrium) shares guest vocals on last track Teufelsmarsch and Misstiq also adds that finishing touch to the song but with the instrumental version. Igor Gorewicz lends his voice with spoken words and hellish screams on Cypka.
One thing that makes Okkult lll stand out besides its production and sound is that the second CD is purely instrumental. So, if there are days and or nights that you want to unwind with the instrumental you can but either way this album offers so much more. There is much I can write with this album but don't want to get side tracked but express to the reader this group is all that and much more. As far as I am concerned there is nothing negative about this album but beautiful sinister bliss.
