Power unleashed in an inexorable wrath as the guitar duo of the Ammot brothers strike another chord of chaos in the new release of Anthems Of Rebellion. Formed in 1996 from Sweden with a vision to create something other than what his former band sound, former guitarist of Carcass Michael Ammot went way to see the his new vision was individual. His pursuit to collaborate with his brother Christopher Amott, Daniel Erlandson (drums) and then vocalist Johan Liiva. Band then released debut Black Earth without prior release of a demo. To this day still ranking an accomplishment in Swedish Metal.

Recruiting Mercyful Fate bassist Sharlee D’Angelo in 1999 to complete the line up, ARCH ENEMY was on the rage to unravel what would be called a unique lineage of musical prowess. Thus fore sending the band on a North American tour with Nevermore and a European tour with In Flames, Children Of Bodom, and Dark Tranquility. Also sharing a concert bill with Cradle Of Filth in London. Michael Ammot still in search of achieving more for ARCH ENEMY pushed the band in a new direction overall. In 2001, a bizarre turn of events that lead an unknown German talent named Angela Gossow to take over the lead vocals replacing that of Johan Liiva. Angela then lead a path of unknown and surprising success with her vocals with the band on the album Wages Of Sin her first musical release with ARCH ENEMY. Marking the first for a band of this rank to be fronted by a woman. Receiving a warm welcome in the world on intense music of metal Gossow by declared by Metal Edge Magazine to be “one of the most promising talents in years”. ARCH ENEMY was declared as 1 of the 5 bands who has illustrated “the sounds of things to come” in 2002 by North America’s Alternative Press.

Showing some proof that was predicted during the bands live shows at the Milwaukee Metalfest, the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival and a North American tour as a supporting act for the band Nile. ARCH ENEMY then headlined there own North American tour that was successful giving way for the bands output of musical identity on the face of Metal. Revved up by there success and going forces with English recording brain Andy Sneap for Anthems Of Rebellion the band unleashes the destructive creative side musically. What is apparent is the vocals of Gossow that show a bitter hard edge giving the taste of raged fury that scorned. Styled with the trademark sound of Michael and Christopher Ammot and unblemished resonance of D’Angelo/Erlandson on the rhythm section has made the band power drive on the songs of We Will Rise and Tear Down The Walls/Silent Wars. A song reminder that needed sarcasm that is needed on a daily viewpoint in conveyed though Leader Of The Rats and last but not least is the song Despicable Heroes is a mocking appraisal of pretense of individuals chosen to headship who misuse the fidelity of their group.

Unlike any other intent of faith of the band intentions, ARCH ENEMY seems to have a clear understanding of what lies ahead. Despite the fact the band has chosen a way for disturbance of shaking the ground of advancing the field of melodic death metal, regardless of the censure. What one hears on Anthems Of Rebellion is the strength that is heard through the music as well as the meaning behind the words that express what is. Recording is mixed with clarity showing the bands serious take to the product as well as musicianship ARCH ENEMY thus far has created a name as well as a sound that has made them a sought after performance to view live. The new material is great and displays new revelation to artistic quality that the band has never had before. Band is now currently on tour with Slayer. Not bad for a band that continues to reach goals with each release album.
