ARCANA
COELESTIA offers a lot of different facets – they fascinate
through weird atmosphere as well as beautiful melodies and melancholic
moments.
At first listening, some calm, gently floating melodies shimmer
through the broad and unloading structure of only four songs,
starting with track one, entitled Cult Of Solitude. Spherical
keyboards fit the scene perfectly and the listener gets the impression
of being in safety caused by choral-like chants. The song goes
on this way for a few minutes, but the band plays with contrasts
– suddenly impelling double bass hammers destroy the silent
sentiment in seconds. The voice gets more and more intense and
screeches at best. Afterwards the composition ends very calmly.
In further course it is not possible to lean back and enjoy in
relaxation during listening to ARCANA COELESTIA, because
the group stays unpredictably. The principle of contrasts is really
important on the two parts of Arcane Knowledge Revealed,
just with the difference that the one-man-band slows down enormously
in between. The fast pieces get more intensity because of this
counterpart. The second part of Arcane Knowledge Revealed
features hefty Black Metal elements speeding up without grace.
Unfortunately I miss the impelling glimpse, the melancholy pulling
you down to the ground, though ARCANA COELESTIA try hard.
They are able to build up certain effects without doubt and their
effort turns out to be a cumbersome work which needs some time
to get addressed to, this is definitely no background tune. Ubi
Secreta Colunt is a nice Doom album with some Black Metal
doses.
