The
albums of the Norwegians APOPTYGMA BERZERK around
mastermind Stephan Groth belong since the early 90ties to the standard
equipment of every DJ case who has any contact to dark electronic
dancing music. With the new single In This Together
as a harbinger of the next album You And Me Against
The World there is a new sign of life of one part
of the former futurepop triumvirate beside VNV Nation and Covenant.
One thing should be said: This single will definitely provide a
lot of space for discussion among the fans of APOPTYGMA
BERZERK and electro fans in common.
Finally coming to the music: the increased use of guitars and drums
during live-gigs of the Norwegians is having an influence on this
album and confirms the statements of the lead singer, that he is
tired of pure music for clubs! In This Together has nothing
in common with the smash hits like Eclipse or Starsign,
but is unmistakable APOPTYGMA BERZERK. A solid
guitar grounding in combination with nearly hymn-like synthie structures,
an absolutely sticking-in-mind-refrain just like Until The End
Of The World and the typical singing of Groth move APOPTYGMA
BERZERK over in the direction of Placebo. APOPTYGMA
BERZERK will surely get new fans with In This Together,
which was played at several live-gigs already, and the new video
is on heavy rotation on the music channels, but the Norwegians always
had an affinity to pop.
With view to change of style, increased catchiness and simplification
of the song structures, an analogy to the latest release of :Wumpscut:
is obtruded, which has caused a lot of dispute among the fans, but
the big difference is, that this song is a really good one and older
fans will be satisfied with the Flipside Club Mix, which could already
have been on the last album. |
