On their debut
record French trio ANGELLORE celebrates classic Gothic
Metal and manages to sail around all clichés that makes
this genre so often so embarrassing.
Errances indeed offers various influences, is full
of melancholy and lavish arrangements, which make this record
a diversified and atmospherically one. But you cannot deny the
idols ANGELLORE draw their inspirations from. The violin
reminds of My Dying Bride, the clean dark vocals of Moonspell
and Type O Negative. Regarding the arrangements you might sense
out Katatonia and, ah, well… the female vocals. You got
it? Originality is surely not their strength.
Before songs
drown in feastful melancholy and kitsch, rocking parts and growls
change course. A touch of Celtic folklore wafts through Weeping
Ghost, another colorful splash. Right after Errances
drops down quite a bit. Ideas and themes get repeated and elegiac
slowness tires. The material is for sure atmospherically harmonious,
though a more of crispy heaviness and speed as well as more driving
hooklines would not have done any harm. Multi-instrumentalist
Rosarius and his band mates have put out a solid debut yet leaving
enough room for future developments. 7 points.
