I never heard of AMENDFOIL before. Hailing from Äetsä, Finland, this quartet, founded back in 2007, released its third demo EP entitled Act Of Grace. I liked the cover artwork and put the CD immediately into my player. Opener Lotus starts somewhat typical for Finnish bands as a melancholic Death/Doom Metal track. Great! Love that! And… well… Duh! Seems like I got led up the garden’s path ;)
AMENDFOIL play a motley mix of Death-, Thrash- and Power Metal, with a huge progressive impact and some Metalcore influences. AMENDFOIL sometimes sound like Opeth, sometimes like Devin Townsend, and always different. They can be solemnly epic or brutally powerful with likewise neck-breaking groove or speed. All in one of course. If singer/guitar player Lassi Mäki-Kala doesn’t sing clean, he knows well how to growl and scream. And, compared to the previous EP’s, he’s not out of the vocal lines anymore ;)
Doing so, AMENDFOIL sound all the time incredibly fresh and straightforward. They know what they do, never overdraw in any direction and deliver great melodies, riffs and refrains, all this with an unbelievable easiness. That’s Finns! No question, AMENDFOIL should be signed in an twinkling of an eye. I even wonder that they are not yet signed.
