AHNENKULT are lively, in a good mood, but also aggressive and belligerent on their down-to-earth work Als Das Licht Verging.
The compositions oscillate between energetic attacks and gentle, even contemplative restraint, which is adequately expressed musically by melancholic guitar passages. These gently plucked moments frame very beautifully the first piece Konstellation, which has to offer otherwise still nasty nagging, hooklines firmly clawing themselves, succeeded guitar fillers as well as heroic lyrics to indulge and sway.
The melodies keep themselves elegantly in the background, but are omnipresent at the courageous Vinland, shape the appearance in a wonderful way and bite into the memory in their shimmering nature. Of course, the Pagan metallers give us heroic choir passages on top and provide more than benevolent reactions. Wonderfully broad lead guitars and acoustic motifs ennoble Sol Invictus, which lives from the alternating singing between screeching and choir and thus experiences an interesting and dynamic flow of composition.
The fighter's heart beats constantly, pushing forward and yet also feelings like melancholy or pain allowing moods capture the listener. Again and again the cunning musicians weave poles of calm into the pieces, only to be able to strike out all the more rabidly afterwards. In between, we enjoy animating tunes or contemplative campfire romance. Many a proudly thrown out chorus touches the inclined pagan heart and so this work appears at the end immersed in an extremely positive light, basic honest and without disturbing bombast or too kitschy additions.
AHNENKULT score with variability, because regarding vocals and music speed the band exhausts the whole spectrum. Whether with biting vocals, heroic duets or just whispering quietly, the duo accompanies the moderately dramatic compositions, which have everything from quiet guitars to black metal outbursts to offer.
