Blasting into the listener’s ear we have Germany’s brutal duo ABSCHWÖRUNG with their compilation of previous demo’s meshed into the one release titled Manifeste des Zorns. Much like the meaning of their name ASCHWÖRUNG, in English translates to Abjuration (is a school of magic that deals in protective spells and the suppression of other’s magic), the band casts their musical aggression with thoughtful implementation ranging from melodic black metal coursing into the veins of death.
When trying to find out more about this talented duo of black death hatred little was to be found about their history of who they are and or musical influences. Maybe being elusive gives them the upper hand to the listener to focus more about their music sound besides their history and overall general make up. Upon listening to Manifeste des Zorns, I wondered what the band was singing as far as lyrics go since they are sung in German, but all I could reflect upon was something brutally sinister, which in my eyes was interested enough.
Frontman M.D.B (vocals, guitars, bass) showcases his talents with his singing intensity along with the guitar/bass rhythms he creates blend beautifully with that of drummer Thym who lends his incessant drumming giving that added touch of rhythmic brutality. It is hard to pinpoint upon the true nature of style that ABSCHWORUNG is aiming for, but through their sheer force of chaos they play their own unique brand of what I would label pure raw metal hatred at it’s finest.
Showcasing the beginnings of torment their first demo Endzeitapokalypse consists of five tracks that display grunge riffed with heavy toned guitars that sling alongside the echoing of heavy laded bass grooves and extreme metal drum works. Vocals carry a velocity of force that remind me of Darkthrone’s Transilvanian Hunger’s era style but much more emphasis can be heard due to the quality of recording ASCHWÖRUNG brings. First demo is overall impressive considering it is less than fifteen minutes of wickedness.
Second demo Alptraumdimension, which has three tracks, is something that offers a diabolical music course giving the listener something to head bang to. Track Erlosung is well done with it’s blended severe twists of sound one wonders why this demo didn’t have other additional tracks. This demo utilizes some intense sounding vocals and guitars to the melodic drumming giving ASCHWÖRUNG’s sound something to look forward to.
Seelenfinsternis, the third demo welcomes the listener into the band’s musical journey of a three-track monstrosity. Considering Manifeste des Zorns consists of ABSCHWÖRUNG’s three demo’s one wonders why this duo’s creativity wasn’t noticed before? Regardless Seelenfinsternis’ third track Höllentanz blasts into a melodic groove that slowly advances into black metal with it’s harsh rhythm guitar then changing into what seems to be an echo of Slayer’s Hell Awaits guitar soloings Not bad if you ask me. Overall ABSCHWÖRUNG’s Manifeste des Zorns delights any dark one out there seeking something original sounding from the past but new in the present.
