What the heck?!
Do you remember ABRUPTUM, the (in)famous side
project of Morgan Hakansson of Marduk and his companion, Tony
Särkää (also known as IT)? They did some pretty
strange albums during the early 90s, above all the sick In
Umbra Maliciae Ambulabo in Aeternum in Triumpho Tenebrarum
(1994), a disc containing only one track of about an hour showcasing
the authors abilities to destroy a violin and to moan, cry and
scream throughout this torturous marathon of noise production.
Every second of this album was so different from what people usually
call music that it truly is hard to describe what it sounds like.
I remember listening to the album from time to time, mostly before
going to bed as it was so boring that I fell asleep immediately
after starting the CD. On the other hand, it was somewhat special
to be one of the lucky (?) owners of the album. I remember showing
it to my friends, telling them how shitty it was all the time
and laughing my ass off about it. Maybe that’s the reason
why I still got it in my CD rack. I’ll probably never sell
it, even though I already sold BETTER albums of my collection.
Anyway, when I read that ABRUPTUM was going to
release another CD, I was quite curious about it as memories from
the past arose. To be honest, not much has changed concerning
ABRUPTUMs music during the last 10 years. Casus
Luciferi consists of 4 tracks and has a playing
time of about 40 minutes. It starts with strange noises (and fucking
monotonous drums) and ends the same way. It is the Alpha and the
Omega, the most terrible album of all times (excluding its predecessors),
and it truly is rotten from a musical point of view. If I had
bought it, I would probably shove it up my ass to punish myself
for my stupidity… and another 5 years later, it still would
have become a true classic of Swedish crap arts (along with the
other ABRUPTUM records, the two Vondur discs
etc…) in my collection. I won’t rate this album. I
would never recommend it to anyone. It is disturbing and completely
fucked up. But somehow I feel sympathy for the creators of it,
as they surely had a good time producing it. So if you get your
hands on it, maybe you should keep it. It might become rare one
day. :-)
