Hailing from the forces of the underground this Swiss-German black metal outfit rages into full terror with their second release The Nordic Stormbringer. Unlike many of the black metal bands out there trying to recreate something of a sinister appeal these cats do not have to try hard in this regard. Expelling out the other negative musical energies UNLIGHT sheds some light into a dark world ruled by the lesser groups killing them off with otherworldly guitar riff progressions and haunting drumming. Some listeners might compare UNLIGHT’s sound to that of the bands Marduk and Astarte but I beg to differ for there is more substance and life in these five energetic individuals.

Lyrically UNLIGHT touches some of the regular black metal lyrics with death and evil, but one thing is that through their words they are extremely talented in that area with verbal construction. Musically the group has raw elements into the field of recording for it shows throughout this CD’s entirety. Album highlights are songs The Nordic Stormbringer, Mandragora and The Immortal Emperor. One thing about these songs is the advantages of vocalist/guitar Blaspherion and keyboardist/synth Lamia blending ghastly melodies producing malevolence sound altogether. Alluring and touching UNLIGHT weaves its web of destruction in perfection through the recording material. The only downfall I can say is not enough songs were covered on this release, but for me it was more than enough. An extreme CD!
