I don’t think I’ve heard something so soulless, lacking of power or ambition in a long time.
THE MARIGOLD’s latest EP entitled Divisional is a 39:05 trip of boredom, so-well-known guitar riffs, predictable rhythm changes and an overall indifference for a clear objective.
I have the impression that they took the favorite riffs or parts of some metal albums, their favorite late alternative 90’s songs and tried to lump them into something they re-wrote.
Why is the vocalist trying to emulate what Dax Riggs did with Acid Bath? Is it just me, or anybody else out there feels like he applies the same tones to choruses and intros?
After the 2 first songs (Bodypart, Melanie) I was bored to death… Still, I tried and kept listening… the 3rd song Tried included a slow change, followed by a lame attempt of climax towards the end. Again THE MARIGOLD failed to raise me expectations, I hear two vocals… lots of guitar scratching, but no content. They are going nowhere.
Now I am in front of the 4th song Nada, hearing a repetitive riff, that it’s not initially bad, but it sinks deep… into the endless seas of abuse, they almost got it… but they failed to create a moving change, a revolving evolution of the music, everything stayed the same.
I am sure there’s some people out there who love THE MARIGOLD, most bands with a contract and a release of this kind have a fan base (I am almost sure).
I hope they are able to prove themselves next time. As of today, I’ve sadly found them static.
