An EP that
runs over 60 minutes and a musical masterpiece that again is second
to none.
When it comes to SWALLOW THE SUN I slowly run out of words
of superlative.
Plague Of Butterflies is a flawless monolith of
tearfulness, one song consisting of three chapters entitled: Losing
The Sunsets, Plague Of Butterflies and Evael 10:00,
followed by the four tracks of the very first and rare demo release
Out Of This Gloomy Light (2003) that, back at that
time, brought them the deal with Spinefarm Records.
Musically the Finns again pull out all the stops. In their acoustic
passages they sound like newer Anathema or Katatonia, riff work
sinks in all destroying Doom, Black Metal accents flash up and
sometimes they even reveal a very restrained Rock attitude. Songs
of all crushing gloom, epic width and haunting beauty, perfectly
arranged and produced. Plague Of Butterflies is
the essence of what SWALLOW THE SUN is about, a summary
of their entire history so far.
Plague Of Butterflies is the must-have for the dark
season!
