After
a long phase of waiting, the time has come for such an enthusiastic
role model-musician as PAUL SPECKMANN, one of the
most legendary godfathers of Death Metal, to release good old material
on CD. On the one hand some people would say that this output is
just a commercial attempt to sell obsolete old-school stuff, but
on the other hand Masterpieces will be
honestly a musical biography of the liked death-lead-veteran, not
only for true fans. And forsooth you can call this release a historic
retrospect of a creating career. This disc includes a collection
composed of Specki’s favorite tracks that were recorded over
the last 25 years with his several projects and lineups such as
Master (Obviously! But at this time the band was
heavily influenced by Motörhead and Venom.), Abomination,
Deathstrike, Solutions and Speckmann
Project.
To give you a short insight of his metallic background: PAUL
SPECKMANN began playing music with a short-lived heavy
metal band from Chicago called Warcry in 1981 and
after a while he and his band-mate and drummer Paul Schmidt founded
the Master-project. Although the name of the group
changed for a short space of time into Deathstrike,
they decided to denominate this Thrash/Speed Metal affected brutal-community
in Master again and recorded the infamous Master
demo’s which were released foremost last year. After an open-ended
separation, Specki united various formations like the ephemeral
Funeral Bitch and the celebrated Abomination.
Paul’s original band was reformed again to record for Nuclear
Blast Records in 1989, simultaneous of the release of the Abomination
debut. At the same time Mastermind SPECKMANN got
in touch with Czech scene and started cooperating with the homey
Death Metal-institutions Krabathor and Martyr
(Krabathor-Sideproject). In his usual position as bassist and vocalist,
the “king of Death Metal” also leads some bands nowadays,
primary the glorious Master.
More detailed information you can find on Paul’s website.
I just have to submit the words of the grand master: “This
compilation is a must for collectors of Underground Metal!”
