Finnish bands
often spread a dark, mystical and overwhelming atmosphere –
and so it does SAATTUE, delivering a sweeping piece of
music with their debut Jäähyvästi.
The mostly very broad and long songs are much thrilling because
of their detailed build-up – sometimes some keyboard interplays,
gorgeous acoustic guitar parts and a perfectly integrated female
voice flash through. But SAATTUE do not exaggerate any
stylistic device, so that Jäähyvästi
is not clichéd at all! Singer T. Koskinen enormously enthuses
with his Finnish sung lyrics. Partly growling, partly performing
with clear voice – earthy, powerful and avoiding too much
pathos. The composition Vieraaseen Multaan combines the
two vocal acrobats and sluggish Doom Metal with elegiac guitar
harmonies and dolce acoustic elements perfectly – a real
delight!
I would describe this work’s sentiment as melancholic but
far away from being depressed – a wonderful CD to enjoy
life and nature while taking a walk…
