The
Italians NODE did a real great job with this
- as far as I know – fifth release. This concept album,
which is entitled Das Kapital, deals
with wars and conflicts of the 20th century and is able to impress
the listener by using certain styles of Metal skilfully. Typical
elements of Death Metal are combined with parts of traditional
Metal and are mixed up with melodic parts that remind me to Soilwork
from time to time. Friends of Swedish Metal can also risk an ear
on this release. A thing, that caught my attention from the beginning,
were the screaming vocals, that are nearly exclusive used on Das
Kapital - they remind me on the typical voice of
Death-Fronter Chuck Schuldiner and along this way they fit absolutely
into the rest of the sound. The vocals are completed with a raw
singing-style. The work of the guitars is held very complex and
the melodies are partly so catchy, that I had an ear candy after
listening to the album for the first time. Drummer-new-entrant
Marco di Salvia shows all of his abilities on Das
Kapital and his brilliance as a drummer; the drumming
doesn’t become boring or monotone during the whole CD and
contributes a lot to the diversion on the album. When it comes
to the technical skills, the guys from the spagetticountry are
all talented and also the song writing doesn't let any dream left
open. Dynamic and variety are pointed out here, what can be heard
in form of frequent changes between high tempo and groovy, almost
rocking parts. Furthermore there is a cover version of Queensryche's
Empire on this CD that along this way fit pretty well
into the sound of Das Kapital. The only
thing I wouldn't have needed is a sample of Göbbels' declaration
"Wollt ihr den totalen Krieg?" ("Do you want total
war?"), which is the intro for the title track on the CD.
But except of this I would call this a more then felicitous album!
