February 2003, a black metal attack was festering into an unrelenting musical phenomenon deep in the German metal underground. Founding members vocalist Nachtgarm, guitarist Trolfbert, bassist Berthelm, and drummer Tramheim set out to leave their mark on the German black metal scene. In August of the same year the band signed to Remedy Records to release their debut album Old Black and was released in February 2004. Gaining quite a success, the band played several shows, including some opening slots for bands such as Belphegor, Marduk, and Behemoth, as well as playing the Party-San and Metal Bash festivals in Germany. Early July 2005, NEGATOR went into EiKey-EiKey Studio along with Eike Freese (Dark Age), in order to record their follow-up album to their highly acclaimed debut Old Black, with their best effort to date entitled Die Eisernen Verse (The Iron Verses).

The Iron Verses is a great title for this album, strong, hard, metallic black metal. Strongly reminding me of 1349 at first and later evolving into its own personal style accented by searing vocals, razor-sharp guitar riffs, and dangerously fast drum attacks. Track 1 Eisen wider Siechtrum blasts you in the face with a wall of majestic yet simple black metal sounds. I want to say this is a symphonic band but with an absence of keyboards, their usage of guitar-driven riffs makes this band unstoppable. Putting you into a mood of wanting to go run through snow-covered forests and battle ancient evils and at the same time blasting you into an unstoppable urge to see this band live. Track 2 Old Stigma is a powerhouse of headbang-worthy riffs and epic sonicspheres. With riffs that are simple yet complex at the same time, NEGATOR, will stick in the mids of some of the most die hard black metal fans. I consider black metal to be the best music genre on the planted and am sometimes close-minded when it comes to choosing new music, yet NEGATOR has blown me away with this release. And for those unlucky folks who missed 2004s Metal Bash and Party-San festivals, a limited edition with a bonus DVD is available, which features live clips from both festivals and a few extra goodies as well.
