Does anybody remember the debut album Inhumanity? I do – because of immortal songs such as Eternity's Child and the title song, MORS PRINCIPIUM EST is, as a consequence, a member of my all time favourite bands! With the second album The Unborn the Finns are acting cleverly, they step forward, but they do not jump in another direction to confuse their fans.
At first I have to say that it is not so easy to get into the songs like in the past. No obvious ear-candy melodies – this record has to be listened to carefully and for at least five times before detecting the great songs and ideas. Just listen to the weird guitar work in Altered State Consciousness, which gets better every time I enjoy it. In all, MORS PRINCIPIUM EST is playing heavier and more aggressive, but also technical. The lead guitar parts are really well done, keeping up suspense for the whole 50 minutes. There is also a quiet interlude (Spirit Conception), placed before the title song. Raging drums, a female voice and extraordinary guitars accompany The Unborn on the turbulent and interesting way through the best minutes of this CD.
The Glass Womb is a slower song and so the Scandinavians enrich the song writing in addition. This is the way it should be done, great mixture! Unfortunately, the cover mania did not stop at the Finns' door with the strange band name (“Death is the beginning) and so the Megadeth´s (fits perfectly, doesn’t it?) Blood Of Heroes is interpreted.
This is the only negative criticism concerning The Unborn. I like this album because of the varied songs and the famous sound (Tico Tico studios). Additionally, the refrains are well done and so I want to recommend this album to all Melodic Death Metal fans!
