South
Carolina has to be one of the most boring states in the Union; I
know this because I live there. The only thing to do is watch the
rednecks act like rednecks and go to metal shows! What's especially
boring is living in Upstate South Carolina. 'Cause all there is,
is mountains and rednecks and the occasional show at the local venue.
And when there is a good band coming, every metal fan in the area
is sure to be there. And one of the best things about South Carolina
is, LECHEROUS NOCTURNE! A band from literally right
down the road, they have to be one of the best underground bands
around! It's a major plus to see something this good coming from
such a boring place; but also, just to see a band this good!
LECHEROUS NOCTURNE
was formed in 1997 by guitarists Christian Lofgren and Chris Lollis,
and vocalist Jason Hohenstein. Having been influenced by technical
and brutal death metal acts such as Gorguts and Morbid Angel and
extreme black metal acts like Emperor and Marduk with a few hints
of Goregrind; they set off to make some very original and brutal
music! In 2002, they released their self-titled, self-financed
EP on LecherousMusic. The album has caused quite a buzz in the
local scene making them one of the biggest bands in the area!
With all the hype they have been seen alongside such acts as Immoliation,
Nile, Incantation, Kreator, Destruction, Cephalic Carnage, Krisiun,
Confessor, Goatwhore, and Superjoint Ritual. The LN
line up is at its strongest, with the addition of bassist Fernando
Ortega and drummer Dallas Toler-Wade (also, Nile). They are currently
about to head off to the studio to work on a new full-length release!
Until then, let’s start with the self-titled masterpiece!
6 tracks of technical
death metal bliss! Blisteringly fast, brutal, in your face! Just
the way I like it! Clever use of technical riffs and false harmonics
are at full force! Track one Autoerotic Asphyxiation
(oohh fun!), is a start-stop, blast in the face of fast episode
of technical riffs that were made just for the mosh pit! Just
take it from me, this is one of the most fun bands to mosh to
when playing live! Now by saying fun, I mean brutal. Once Track
2 Consider The Following hits, you are already in that
mood where you are ready to just start ramming into things and
this track makes you want to not only ram into things, but run
straight into them with a force unknown to humans. Unintelligible
vocals that just makes you grab your throat and go "ow",
pushes this band into not only the technical death metal genre
but further into the Gore metal genre. Granted most gore metal
riffs are a bit on the technical side, they take this with a grain
of salt and push the technicalities to a level of "oh my
god!". With a line-up just as good as the music itself, they
are armed with some of the best musicians I've seen in the small,
yet growing metal culture here in South Carolina. With a debut
release this good and a live show to back it up, the new album
will be welcomed with arms wide open! Keep it brutal!
