Umm, just
another band trying to profit from the recent thrash metal revival
initiated by the success of Netherlands based Legion Of The Damned
and the „re-spawned“ Slayer, is what I usually think
when I get to hear of y young band playing old school like thrash
metal. But besides the “clones”, there are also positive
surprise, and KINGDOM OF SALVATION, a 2003 founded
band from Leverkusen, Germany, are one of those.
Of course one can find lots of citations from the works of Slayer
(e.g. Misery Broadcast) or even Iron Maiden (The
Flames Of Revenge) and other eighties-heroes as well as some
borrowings from early Swedish death metal acts. But although KINGDOM
OF SALVATION made no pretence of their influences, there
are also some examples of a rather stand-alone songwriting on
Lost In Chaos. And in my opinion, especially
when the band does not imitate one of their superior paragons,
the songs turn out to be their strongest.
Maybe the best example for this is the track Tyrant Of Terror
(also very nice to listen to performed live as I could experience
two times recently). Starting off with a sluggish, melodic and
simply strong riff as basic theme for the song, it slowly leads
over to an aggressive and fast mid part and from there into an
almost atmospheric interlude to keep up the intensity. And until
the end, the song glides back to its basic theme. Simply a convincing
song!
So, anyone who likes the genre is recommended to try this one
out. Not every song holds something groundbreaking, but there
are some nice ideas to discover on Lost In Chaos!
