GATECRUSHER,
when hearing this word one can imagine rude Thrash Metal or the
musical destruction of the Seven Gates Of Hell. But only imagine…
Which ever way you look at the synonyms of crush, the result is
melodic Death Metal made in Ingolstadt/Germany. Basically this
isn’t the worst, those who credit oneself with Scandinavian
Death Metal raises the bar – too high for my taste. In consideration
of the fact, that Words On Empty Drafts means to
be GATECRUSHER’s debut album, they do their job quite
well indeed. The Bavarians do their very best to dispose of their
melodic Death Metal as authentic as possible. In parts it works
with the one or other convincing arc of melody. Four tracks have
its seeds partly back in demo time are joined by two instrumental
songs, just three new tracks and a few mistakes in tactfulness.
One can have a complaisant view about this when focusing the musical
disturbance classified grade 1: vocalist Bastian Fersch. All other
band member could struggle to endue Words On Empty Drafts
with acceptable Metal, the laryngeal growls missing out every
arc of melody undo the work “in the background”. Maybe
this should reflect the musical concept GATECRUSHER stands
for: „The Good and Evil doesn’t really exist –
they are one.” Well, a better unity would be formed if the
voice won’t be monotonous contraire to the music. The attempt
to glisten with clean vocals in the last track Fires/Theatre-Edit
ends as non-starter though. Potential is generally given –
but it still should be worked with it.
