When it comes
to German Satanic black metal say no more than the name CHAOS
INVOCATION. In 2009 they graced us with a triumphantly evil
first album In Bloodline With The Snake. A release
that sent brave souls running for the hills. Once again CHAOS
INVOCATION have risen out of their darkened tombs to bring
forth their second full length Black Mirror Hours.
Previous drummer AD has exited the band and since been replaced
by one only known as T. For only having two releases to their
credit CHAOS INVOCATION knows exactly what their sound
is all about and is quite serious in the matter the portray it.
Unforgiving, full assault Satanic black metal!
From the beginning
of Delirium Worship And Total Abandon its already clear
that this album is going to take you to the edge of blackened
sanity. CHAOS INVOCATION made sure they made their mark
last album with their own unique sound and sure enough it is very
recognizable as we dive into Black Mirror Hours.
The aggressive yet melodic guitar sounds of A call to mind a Watain/Dissection
sound. However, presented in their own unique style, but this
gives you an idea of what your getting into. The vocals of M are
just phenomenal. It sounds as if he really poured his black heart
and quivering soul out. Screams from the pit of Lucifer’s
lair. Moans and groans spewed like vomit from demons. M’s
vocal delivery intensity surpasses even that of Erik from Watain.
That’s saying quite a lot. Passionate vocalists are quite
hard to encounter these days. Just listen to the song Beyond
Coming and you’ll know what I mean. In a few rare parts
on the album there is a small amount of clean singing, however
this doesn’t change the dramatic effect of the vocals in
any way. As far as drumming goes, you would never know that T
was new in the mix. It’s as if he’s always been in
the band. Incredible drumming techniques are brought forth to
fit the chaos and aggression of the music. CHAOS INVOCATION
certainly has the upper hand of Satan on their side when it comes
to songwriting. The lyrics just exude evil and all things otherworldly.
Astral projection also enters into the subject matter adding more
chilling diversity to the lyrics. As far as arranging goes, CHAOS
INVOCATION knows exactly what the fuck they are doing. Sounding
as if they have done this many times before, it is a bit shocking
knowing this is only their second known release. They are that
damn good! Production is perfect, although I cannot really hear
the bass in the mix, it doesn’t really matter as the guitar
and vocals seem to capture all the attention. Black Mirror
Hours is horrifically perfect and would no doubt make
Satan proud.
