BATTLE OF THE BAYS EUROPEAN TOUR

I actually have already seen OBITUARY and EXODUS on various festivals. And actually I could have gone to one of the other 1000 concerts in this so packed month of touring. But… Battle Of The Bays European Tour also had PRONG on its billing. And… OBITUARY… hahahaha. Damn… Nooo, no chance to miss that one!

Ok, let’s hit the road towards Dortmund and the FZW club. Aaahhh… STOP! Venue change. Let’s hit the road towards Essen and the :: Turock ::! Thank Buddha I thought of it early enough ;) I suppose, the trek was booked for the big hall at FZW and the pre-sale wasn’t good enough. And the FZW club already too small. Luckily there’s still the Turock ;) Perfect size. The club wasn’t officially sold out, but really packed and crowd. I mean… that cuddly crowded.

:: pics :: KING PARROT ::

Four bands, early start and I was late. :: KING PARROT :: already stood on stage and made a hellish noise when I arrived. I didn’t had the pleasure with those Australians before, but with their Thrash/Grindcore carnage they immediately left a good impression ;) I later heard of boorishness, open pants and pee-pees. Must have happened before I arrived. The water games and the mooning of singer Youngy I rather found harmless, unaesthetic at best. This show was short and snappy. And entertaining. That’s the way it has to be ;)
Setlist: Anthem Of The Advance Sinner, Need No Savior, Dead End, Bozo, Hell Comes Your Way, Now It Stokes Frenzy, Home Is Where The Gutter Is, Shit On The Liver, Psychotherapy and Valium, Silly Ol' Mate

:: pics :: PRONG ::

And then it was already up to my heroes of :: PRONG ::. But first a frightened look on Tommy Victor. He lost a lot of weight, he got so thin. I hope for health reasons. But yeah, he was in great shape and full of energy, jumped over the small room of the stage that was left for the supporting bands. Sound was insanely loud and the singing hardly to hear. Earplugs were a must-have! Otherwise a tinnitus afterwards was sure. And the sound wasn’t well balanced either, very much bass-driven, but it has so nicely prickled in my belly button ;) PRONG played with such full force that drummer Art Cruz killed his snares but the band played itself into the hearts of the audience. Early this year, PRONG have released a new album, entitled X - No Absolutes, they played 3 songs from. But much better were the bunch of classics from the 1994 record Cleansing. That was pure fun, even if PRONG pretty much rushed through their set.
Setlist: Eternal Heat, For Dear Life, Unconditional, Ultimate Authority, Turnover, Cut And Dry, Another Worldly Device, Whose Fist Is This Anyway?, Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck, Sense Of Ease

:: pics :: EXODUS ::

Those, who couldn’t cuddle enough during PRONG, got now the chance. Wanted or unwanted. Before :: EXODUS :: kicked off everybody was pushing close to the stage and Obituary drummer Donald Tardy gave a little speech, thanking Peter for making the venue change possible. Much more, since the Turock is a special place for EXODUS and OBITUARY, he honored that with a little raffle. More than 100 fans took part in it and could sponge some nice packages. What a nice gesture :)
And then all hell was let loose. Right after the Turock got destroyed ;) The Bay Area veterans were in best mood too and left nothing but scorched earth. Since Gary Holt still paints the towns red with Slayer, we have the half EXODUS, half Heathen combination live on stage. Heathen, yeah, would be great to see them playing again. Singer Steve "Zetro" Souza also thanked Peter and the Turock crew overwhelmingly as well as the fans. And you could see it came from the bottom of his heart. In between crowd surfer plopped onto stage or from the stage into the audience. But why must that be always the biggest and heaviest guys? Luckily I was out of harm's way ;) Killing show! Indeed! Oh, what about a new record?
Setlist: The Ballad Of Leonard And Charles, Blood In Blood Out, And Then There Were None, Deranged, Body Harvest, Piranha, Blacklist, War Is My Shepherd, Bonded By Blood, The Toxic Waltz, Strike Of The Beast

:: pics:: OBITUARY ::

Last quick change-over. There was no disco afterwards, so why this hurry? Hm. However, done, lights out, spot on :: OBITUARY ::. After all this Thrash Metal massacre now the Death Metal slaughter, the Florida style. And OBITUARY destroyed what was still left. Figuratively spoken, of course ;) Unfortunately, there was a drunken bastard who acted very rude and wanted to push himself into the front row with a vengeance. And the security didn’t do anything to pull that guy out and neutralize him. Instead a girl had to suffer, and I caught me some bruises too. Now I would have loved to destroy something… in his face for example. And that I do not mean figuratively. Well… fuck it. There was a lot of action on stage and in front of. OBITUARY delivered new tracks and many classics. It was a hot, sweaty, cuddly and a downright entertaining evening. Pure aggression, pure energy. Thank you Turock, thank you Peter! :) And slowly rotting I went back home, early shift, the alarm rang at 4:30 am, you know…
Setlist: Internal Bleeding, Words Of Evil, Chopped In Half/Turned Inside Out, Intoxicated, Visions In My Head, Deadly Intentions, Bloodsoaked, Ten Thousand Ways To Die, Dying, Find The Arise, 'Til Death, Don't Care // Dethroned Emperor (Celtic Frost cover), Circle Of The Tyrants (Celtic Frost cover), Slowly We Rot
